About the Palmetto Leadership Council

The Palmetto Leadership Council (PLC) is an independent, bipartisan political action committee founded to encourage economic development in South Carolina. Created to promote candidates for public office in South Carolina who are pro-business and understand the importance of moving our state forward, the Council promotes ideas and issues to achieve certain goals.

The Palmetto Leadership Council continues to set an example, finding and supporting true pro-business candidates in South Carolina. Commitment to those candidates who understand that commitment to free enterprise is the only way business can expect to win the future votes necessary for continued growth. It's that easy.

We have much to do if pro-business voting margins in the South Carolina state legislature are to increase, it cannot be done without your support. Join us!

1. Student academic achievement – We will be in the top half of the country in K-12 education by 2010.
2. Technical education institutions – We will prepare the majority of our high school graduates for successful careers aligned with private sector job needs.
3. Four-year colleges – We will be increasingly focused on academic excellence, preparing students to be leaders in a highly productive economy.
4. Research universities – We will move them to top-tier status and emphasize teaching, service and research in cooperation with the private sector.
5. Innovation – We will foster applied research to create home-grown companies, higher paying jobs and clusters of excellence.
6. Entrepreneurship – We will support incubation, venture financing, infrastructure and management assistance programs that will increase our ability to generate jobs.
7. Quality of life – We will preserve the distinctive features that enhance our quality of life.

A Message from Bobby Harrell
There is a deep desire among South Carolina leaders, both business and political, to unite in the urgent mission of raising the standard of living for our people. It is a calling that transcends political, economic and social barriers.

As one of those South Carolinians who wants to advance this mission, I support the efforts of the
Palmetto Leadership Council. The Council’s vision is to raise our state’s per capita income level. The mission is to collaborate with and support people and organizations that want to work for policies to make South Carolina more productive and competitive in the knowledge-based economy.

The Palmetto Leadership Council will be a nexus linking business and public policy, creating an environment that encourages the entrepreneurial spirit we must have to improve our quality of life.
